Bottrop Integration Committee

Political participation of people with an international family history

What is the Integration Committee?

The Integration Committee of the City of Bottrop is an elected body responsible for all matters relating to migration and integration as an advisory committee. It meets several times a year, depending on the council meetings. The meetings are open to the public.

Together with the city council, the committee deals with integration issues in Bottrop. As it can only be elected by people with an international family history, many of whom do not otherwise have the right to vote in Germany, it promotes the political participation of people with a migration background.

Its jurisdiction is broad and aims to achieve cultural, political, legal and social equality for Bottrop residents with an international family history. It can draw up suggestions or opinions and submit them to the relevant committees for consultation. On the other hand, it is tasked with taking a stand on issues submitted to it by the council, a committee, a district council or the Mayor.

The Integration Committee also provides funds to support the work of associations and organisations that carry out projects to promote integration.

You can find more information on this, as well as on a large number of local associations that work with and for people with a migration background, here:

The Integration Committee has 25 voting members. Seventeen of these members are elected by Bottrop residents with an international family history. The other eight members are delegated to the Integration Committee by the Bottrop City Council.

Who can vote for the Integration Committee?

  • are at least 16 years old
  • have lived in Germany for at least one year at the time of the election
