Geographical location
Bottrop is located in the northern Ruhr Area between the Lower Rhine basin and the Münsterland plain on the south west edge of the Vestisches Plateau. 51° 34' 24'' latitude north, 6° 55' 20'' longitude east of Greenwich. The distance between the northern and southern tips of the city is 17 km (10.5 miles), that between the furthest points east and west is 9 km (5.5 miles). The lowest point in Bottrop is 26 metres above the sea level, the highest point 78 metres.
